The New Poverty Studies: The Ethnography of Power, Politics, and Impoverished People in the United States by Judith Goode,
Stock market euphoria cause of poverty and blind faith in the post-Cold War economy have driven the topic of poverty from popular cause of poverty and scholarly discussion in the United States. At the same time the gap between the rich cause of poverty and poor has never been wider. The New Poverty Studies critically examines the new war against the poor that has accompanied the rise of the New Economy in the past two decades, cause of poverty and details the myriad ways poor people have struggled against it. In updating the 1960s encounter between ethnography cause of poverty and U.S. poverty, The New Poverty Studies highlights the ways poverty is constructed across multiple scales cause of poverty and multiple axes of difference. Questioning the common wisdom that poverty persists because of the pathology, social isolation cause of poverty and welfare state "dependency" of the poor, the contributors to The New Poverty Studies point instead to economic restructuring cause of poverty and neoliberal policy "reforms" which have caused increased social inequality cause of poverty and economic polarization in the U.S.

The Wealth of the World and the Poverty of Nations by Daniel Cohen,

The Wealth of the World and the Poverty of Nations by Daniel Cohen,
The present situation, in which poor nations are becoming richer cause of poverty and rich nations poorer, gives credence to the idea that the former phenomenon is responsible for the latter. The great fear of many in the West is that trade with India, China, or the former Soviet Union will cause a collapse of the welfare state cause of poverty and of society's well-being."Globalization" has become a loaded term. Should we believe, literally, that trade with poor nations can be blamed for our "impoverishment"? In this book, Daniel Cohen claims that there is practically no foundation for such an alarmist position. We need to reverse the commonly held view that globalization has caused today's insecure labor market. On the contrary, Cohen argues, our own propensity for transforming the nature of work has created a niche for globalization cause of poverty and given it an ominous dimension, causing some to reject it. Pursuing this erroneous line of thought will place the battle for social welfare "on the sidelines" when it should be fought "on the inside." Such errors in analysis must not persist; as Cohen says, the stakes are too high.

Poverty reduction - Poverty reduction or poverty alleviation is the weak form of poverty eradication. Two types of poverty are recognised - income poverty and non income poverty.

Culture of poverty - The culture of poverty concept is a social theory explaining the cycle of poverty. Based on the concept that the poor have a unique value system, the culture of poverty theory suggests the poor remain in poverty because of their adaptations to the burdens of poverty.

Poverty in the United States - There is significant disagreement about poverty in the United States; particularly over how poverty ought to be defined. Using radically different definitions, two major groups of advocates have claimed variously (a) that the United States has eliminated poverty over the last century; or (b) that it has such a severe crisis of poverty that it ought to devote significantly more resources to the problem.

Poverty line in the United States - In the United States, official statistics on poverty and the official poverty line are kept by the US Census Bureau. Other federal and state agencies, however, use other definitions of poverty, for example, to do means testing for welfare programs.
