International political economy - International political economy (IPE) is a perspective in the social sciences and history that analyzes international relations in combination with political economy. Ultimately, IPE is about the consequences on an international level of the interaction between the state (politics) and the market (economics).
Market theology - Market theology is a pejorative term describing the apparent belief that value conflicts are always best resolved by markets. Critics believe this represents a wilful ignorance of the role of states and state power balances in underlying political economy.
Ordoliberalism - According to ordoliberalism, the state must create a proper legal environment for the economy and maintain a healthy level of competition through measures that adhere to market principles. The concern is that, if the state does not take active measures to foster competition, firms with monopoly (or oligopoly) power will emerge, which will not only subvert the advantages offered by the market economy, but also possibly undermine democracy itself, since strong economic power can be transformed into political power.
New totalitarianism - New totalitarianism is a term coined by ethicist John McMurtry to describe the political economy implied by so-called market theology; in other words, the ethics resolved wholly by the global markets with existing state power balances.

In Enterprising Southerners, Robert C. Kenzer examines the characteristics of North Carolina's black population. What is surprising, Kenzer asserts, is that his research does not support lingering theories that the heritage of slavery adversely affected blacks'performance in the fifty years following the Civil War until 1915.
